Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could enable a chance to flee".

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was convicted of leading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a scheme which encompassed plans to kill the current president and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without problem on January 1st, 2023.
